The string quartet AKELA is an ensemble consisting of four musicians. They have played together since childhood, and their shared journey gives the music a particularly organic and present quality. A sound where personality, friendship, and ambition merge. Despite their young age, AKELA has already made a name for itself on the international stage with concerts in, among others, China, Canada, and large parts of Europe. They have also received several prestigious awards, including the Leonie Sonnings Talent Prize (2024) and the Carl Nielsen Talent Prize (2023). "Schumann" is the focal point of this concert. Akela starts with Robert Schumann's first string quartet, written after he finally received permission to marry Clara after a long conflict with Clara's father. Following this, Sally Beamish's innovative work, 9 Fragments. Beamish draws inspiration from Schumann's first quartet and bases each of the nine small movements on a motif from Schumann. They conclude with a lied arranged for string quartet by Clara Schumann. Ich stand in dunkeln Träumen is one of her 6 songs from her opus 13, it has a sad text but a beautiful, romantic melody.
